Texas voters approve $10B energy fund, with most going to build gas-fired power plants

ERCOT reserve margin declines further as municipality pulls Texas coal peaker

For the third consecutive year, the Texas Municipal Power Agency (TMPA) informed the state’s grid operator that it will pull its 470 MW Gibbons Creek coal plant offline this summer and instead purchase cheaper energy for customers on the open market.

Another Texas power plant is mothballed, raising concerns over reserves and prices

Gibbons Creek Generating Station, a coal-fired power plant about 20 miles from Bryan near College Station, put the state’s grid operator on notice that the plant will not operate this summer. The closure reduces the state’s already tight power reserves and is sparking forecasts of higher electricity prices.
